In today’s world, it is indeed difficult to find a true friend—someone who is willing to sacrifice and stand by their friend through difficult times. Although it is easy for us to meet new people and build new connections, finding someone who is willing to walk with us through life’s hardships is truly rare.
True Friendship
A true friend is indeed very hard to find. We all have friends who disappear in the blink of an eye—friends we once thought were sincere, but turned out not to be. Many people form friendships only for personal gain. In the end, disappointment often becomes unavoidable.
These experiences make many people feel hurt and choose not to befriend others anymore. Many prefer to protect themselves. Many no longer want to trust because they have been betrayed, used, or even deceived. As a result, not a few of us begin to close ourselves off and live in isolation.
However, even if the whole world and all humanity were to disappear, we would still have Someone who would never leave us in loneliness and solitude. His name is Jesus. He is our true friend.
A Pure and Genuine Friend
Some people may think that there is no such thing as a pure and genuine friend. But here we discover who that kind of friend truly is. He is Jesus Christ, who deeply desires to be our friend.
Imagine this—how could it be possible for God Himself to want to befriend us? Yet He truly does. His friendship is pure, sincere, and unconditional (Hebrews 13:5).
Being friends with God is not the same as being friends with humans. God does not place many conditions on friendship. He simply wants us to trust Him and live by faith. Once we believe, we begin to obey Him and personally experience an extraordinary friendship with Him.
God’s Friendship With Us
To help us believe and accept God as our close friend, there are several Bible verses that explain what kind of friend God truly is.
1. Jesus Is a Unique and Selfless Friend
“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
(John 15:12–13)
2. Jesus Is a Friend Guided by Purpose and Direction
“You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
