President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the fight against drug abuse in Indonesia by expanding drug rehabilitation centers across the country.

This plan focuses on cities and regencies that currently do not have rehabilitation facilities, aiming to ensure equal access to recovery services nationwide.

“We need additional rehabilitation centers. There are several regencies that do not yet have them, and we must complete these facilities as soon as possible,” Prabowo said at Bhayangkara Field, Jakarta, Wednesday (October 29, 2025).

National Cooperation to Combat Drug Abuse

President Prabowo emphasized that combating drug abuse cannot be handled by a single institution alone.

He called for cross-sector collaboration, involving the central and regional governments, security forces, and civil society.

“This is the work of the entire nation. We must not rely on just one or two institutions. We all must work together because this problem is extremely dangerous,” he stressed.

This commitment shows that the government is not only focusing on law enforcement, but also on rehabilitation and recovery, enabling drug abuse victims to regain social functionality and productivity.

Rehabilitation Facility Data in Indonesia

Previously, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that not all cities and regencies currently have rehabilitation facilities to accommodate and recover drug abuse victims.

He delivered this statement during the destruction of drug evidence at Bhayangkara Field, National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, attended by President Prabowo.

“Currently, there are 615 rehabilitation institutions across Indonesia, consisting of 393 medical rehabilitation centers and 222 social rehabilitation centers. However, not all regencies and cities have these facilities,” explained the Police Chief.

He added that cross-ministerial and institutional cooperation is essential, particularly involving the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Affairs, National Narcotics Agency (BNN), and local governments.

Rehabilitation as a Key Step in Addiction Recovery

Listyo Sigit also highlighted the importance of appropriate rehabilitation methods to ensure effective recovery.

According to him, strong support from medical, social, and psychological professionals is crucial so that drug abuse victims can recover and return to active roles in society.

Well-directed rehabilitation programs not only reduce addiction rates but also help prevent further social problems such as crime and mental health disorders caused by drug abuse.

The government hopes that by increasing the number of rehabilitation facilities, access to recovery services will become more equitable, including in remote areas.

President Prabowo’s initiative to expand drug rehabilitation centers has been widely welcomed.

This program is expected to become a new milestone in comprehensive drug abuse management, applying a holistic recovery approach—physical, mental, and social.
